A pair of Frostburg State baseball players were named to the 2001 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Southern All-Star Teams announced Friday.
Junior first baseman Steve Simpson (Harrington, Del./Lake Forest) was voted to the second team after hitting .345 and leading the Bobcats with 42 runs and 38 walks. A 2001 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference first-team selection, Simpson ranked second on the Bobcat squad in on-base percentage (.513), tied for second in home runs (5) and doubles (12) and finished third in both hits (39) and RBIs (31).
Freshman designated hitter Eric Edelman (Silver Spring, Md./Sherwood) earned ECAC honorable mention honors after enjoying a solid rookie season. He ranked fourth on the team with a .370 batting average and finished third in both slugging percentage (.630) and on-base percentage (.508). Edelman, also an All-AMCC first team selection, had 17 hits, three doubles, three home runs and 15 RBIs.
The Bobcat baseball team finished 25-16 and advanced to the ECAC Southern Region Tournament for the fifth time in the last six years and the 11th time in school history.
