DANVILLE, Va. –
Six different players scored goals as Frostburg State won its third-straight game with a 23-8 rout of Averett, Saturday afternoon.
Senior Ashley Mattison (Pasadena, Md./Chesapeake) scored six goals to lead FSU (4-3) in scoring. Freshman Elisabeth Hildebrand (Frederick, Md./Walkersville) scored five goals and passed out four assists while junior Carly Rihard (Hampstead, Md./North Carroll) had five goals and three assists.
Vanessa Jordan led the Cougars (3-8) with four goals and Darcie Jones had three.
Averett scored the game’s first goal two and half minutes into action but FSU answered with 10-consecutive goals for a 10-1 edge. Hildebrand led the run with four goals and Rihard and Mattison each netted two.
AU scored two goals late in the half as the team’s headed into the locker rooms with FSU leading 10-3.
Senior Tina Trent (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) pushed the visitor lead to 11-3 with a goal 38 seconds into the second half.
With the Frostburg State lead at 15-7, Mattison scored three goals as the Bobcats tallied eight scores in a row for a 22-7 lead. Both squads netted one more goal a piece as the scoring ended.
Sophomore Erin Morrell (Easton, Md./Easton) earned her first win of the season for FSU allowing eight goals while stopping eight shots.
Frostburg State returns to action on Wednesday, April 11 when it hosts Shenandoah at 4:00 pm.
