The Frostburg State University Department of Music presents Karen Soderberg, mezzo-soprano; Mary Mumper, soprano; and clarinetist Mark Gallagher in concert, accompanied by Betty Jane Phillips, Sunday, April 21, at 3 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center Pealer Recital Hall.
Soderberg is director of vocal and choral activities at FSU, musical director of the Cumberland Choral Society and director of choirs at Emmanuel Episcopal Church. She is active as an adjudicator, clinician and guest conductor throughout the region. Mary Mumper is chair of the FSU Chemistry Department and an active member of the Cumberland Choral Society. Clarinetist Mark Gallagher is an adjunct professor at FSU, a member of the Semplice Harbor Winds and actively involved as a solo performer throughout the United States.
Selections include "Six German Songs, Opus 103" for mezzo-soprano, piano and clarinet obbligato by Ludwig Spohr; "Soliloquies for Solo Clarinet" by Leslie Bassett; "Songs to the Moon" and "Of Gods and Cats" for soprano by Jake Heggie and duets by Purcell, Marcello, Rossini, Offenbach and Irving Berlin.
The concert is free and open to the public. Donations will be accepted toward the Music Scholarship fund.
