SALEM, VA —
Frostburg State wrapped up play at the Ferrum Tournament by splitting its two games Saturday afternoon at the Salem Sports Complex. The Bobcats dumped Randolph Macon, 12-5, in their first contest before being blanked by Emory and Henry, 3-0.
In their opener, the Bobcats (3-3) overcame a 5-3 deficit with a six-run fourth inning and cruised to the win.
Sophomore Stephanie Zych (Slingerlands, N.Y./Guilderland) tied the game with a two-run double, and senior Krissy Jackson (Frostburg, Md./Beall) put FSU in front for good with a run-scoring double.
Freshman Raelee Casazza (Miller Place, N.Y./Miller Place) also drove in a run with a double, and sophomore Amber Blackmire (Hebron, Md./Mardela) capped the spurt with an RBI-single.
The Bobcats added a pair of runs in the fifth as freshman Kristy Sipes (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) hit a sacrifice fly and sophomore Richelle Foor (Everett, Pa./Everett) scored on a wild pitch.
Foor capped the scoring with an RBI-double in the seventh.
Freshman Jen Vance (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) picked up her first collegiate win, allowing five runs on six hits. She struck out four and walked one in the complete-game effort.
Zych led FSU's 11-hit attack, going 2-for-3 with two doubles, two RBIs and four runs scored.
In game two, the Bobcat bats were held in check by Emory and Henry freshman Julia Molenaar, who tossed a five-hit shutout.
Molenaar and Casazza were locked in a scoreless battle before Emory and Henry scored all three of its runs in the bottom of the fourth.
Foor and Jackson led Frostburg State with two singles apiece, while Zych also singled.
Casazza fell to 2-1 on the season after allowing three runs on five hits in a complete-game performance.
Frostburg State will visit Juniata for a doubleheader Monday beginning at 3:00 p.m.
