Softball Drops Two on Second Day of Snowbird Softball Tournament

MYRTLE BEACH, S.C – The Frostburg State softball team was swept on the second day of the Snowbird Spring Break softball tournament, Tuesday.

FSU (3-9) lost game one to Haskell 3-1 and dropped game two by the count of 2-0 to Shawnee State.

In the opener, the Bobcats broke onto the scoreboard in the top of the fourth inning with one run. However, Haskell answered in the bottom half of the inning with three runs.

Frostburg State out hit Haskell in the loss, 6-4.

Senior Lori Potts (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) took the loss for FSU pitching 6.0 innings allowing four hits while fanning five.

Freshman Kelly Filipowicz (Elkridge, Md./Long Reach) led the team at the plate going 2-for-3 with an RBI while sophomore Kaitlyn Wagner (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) was 1-for-3 and a run scored.

In the nightcap, Shawnee State scored a run in both the first and third innings to outpace the Bobcats.

Freshman starter Katelyn Coffey (Middletown, Md./Middletown) suffered the loss for Frostburg State tossing a complete game allowing two runs, one earned, on five hits.

Freshman Amber Macintosh (Point of Rocks, Md./Brunswick) was 2-for-4 while junior Amanda Baldwin (Baltimore, Md./North County) was 1-for-3.

Frostburg State returns to action on Wednesday when it faces Clark State at 9:00 am.
