Softball Routs St. Joseph's for Fifth Straight Win
SALEM, VA —
Frostburg State beat St.Joseph's 11-2 in five innings Saturday afternoon to win its fifth straight contest.
The Bobcats (5-2) scored three runs in the bottom of the first inning when sophomore Trish Brown (North Carroll/Manchester, Md.) hit a two-run single and sophomore Jessica Smith (Allegany/La Vale, Md.) had a run-scoring RBI fielder's choice.
St. Joseph's got two unearned runs in the top of the second to make it a 3-2 contest, but the Bobcats came right back with three more runs in the bottom of the second.
Senior Marsha Moats (South Hagerstown/Hagerstown, Md.) hit a RBI-single and senior Stephanie Zych (Guilderland/Slingerlands, N.Y.) added a two-run double.
The Red and Black blew it wide open with five runs in the bottom of the fourth. Zych had a RBI-double, Smith had a single, Zych later scored on a wild-pitch during an intentional walk and sophomore Krystal Dixon (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) had a pinch-hit two-run single to cap the scoring.
Zych went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBI, Brown finished 2-for-3 with two RBI and two runs scored and freshman Lori Potts (Loudoun Valley/Purcellville, Va.) went 2-for-4 with two runs scored.
Senior Andria Cook (Allegany (Columbia Union)/Cresaptown, Md.) earned her third straight victory, scattering four hits, striking out three and giving up two unearned runs.
Cook now boasts a 0.28 earned run average, having allowed just one earned run in 24.2 innings this season.
The Bobcats return to action Sunday when they face Emory & Henry at 10:30 a.m.
