Softball Splits on Day One of Atlantic vs. East Challenge
03/03/2006

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. - The Frostburg State softball team split on the opening day of the Atlantic vs. East Challenge. FSU beat Christopher Newport 10-9 and lost to Salisbury 3-0.

The Bobcats open the season at 1-1 overall.

In the win over CNU, the game was tied at three after the fourth inning. Each team added three runs in the fifth and FSU took a 9-6 lead in the sixth by scoring three more runs.

The Bobcats scored one in the top of the ninth and held off a late Captain surge, to take the win 10-9.

Senior Trish Brown (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) led FSU going 3-for-5 with three RBIs and one run while junior Amanda Griswold (Rockville, Md./Magruder) was 3-for-4 with two RBIs. Sophomore Amanda Baldwin (Baltimore, Md./North County) also had three hits to go along with two runs.

Senior Jen Cook (Cresaptown, Md./Allegany) tossed six innings allowing eight runs on 10 hits while striking out three.

In game two, Salisbury scored two runs in the first and added one in the sixth to take the win 3-0.

Seniors Bethany Seyler (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) and Sarah Savoye (Davidsonville, Md./South River), junior Lori Potts (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) and sophomore Meghan Dabkowski (Eastnorthport, N.Y./Commack) along with Baldwin all had one hit for FSU.

Potts suffered the loss for the Bobcats, pitching six innings giving up three runs on three hits while striking out three.

FSU returns to action tomorrow when it faces Juniata at 9:00 am and Lynchburg at 1:00 pm.
