Softball Splits on Day Two of Atlantic vs. East Challenge
VIRGINIA BEACH, Va. -
The Frostburg State softball team split on the second day of the Atlantic vs. East Challenge. FSU downed Juniata 5-4 but lost to Lynchburg 7-3.
The Bobcats even their record at 2-2 on the season.
In the win over Juniata, Frostburg State fell behind early after allowing one run in the top of the first inning. However, in the home half of the first, FSU scored three runs to take the lead.
The Bobcats added to their advantage with one run in the third and one in the fifth. Juniata made a late charge posting two runs in the fifth but FSU held the Eagles scoreless the last two innings to earn the win.
Seniors Trish Brown (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) and Sarah Savoye (Davidsonville, Md./South River) and junior Lori Potts (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) led the Bobcats.
Brown went 1-for-2 with an RBI double, Savoye posted two RBIs and Potts was 1-for-2 with an RBI and two runs.
Senior pitcher Jen Cook (Cresaptown, Md./Allegany) tossed seven innings allowing five hits with five strikeouts.
In the loss to Lynchburg, FSU gave up three runs in the first inning and one in the second to trail 4-0. The Bobcats scored one run in the fourth and the teams exchanged runs in the fifth inning, as the FSU trailed 5-2.
LC padded it's lead in the sixth with two more scores and Frostburg State added one run in the seventh to close out the game.
Brown was 2-for-4 with two doubles, senior Megan Burner (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) was 2-for-3 with a homerun and junior Amanda Griswold (Rockville, Md./Magruder) was 2-for-4.
The Bobcats return to action Saturday, March 18 at the Ferrum Tournament when they square off against Division II Ohio Valley at 9:00 am.
