Softball Swept by Bridgewater

BRIDGEWATER, Va. - The Frostburg State softball team was swept by Bridgewater Monday afternoon. FSU dropped game one, 8-2, and game two, 9-1.

The Bobcats fell to 3-7 overall while the Eagles improve to 14-2 overall.

In game one, FSU got on the board early with one run in the first inning when senior Trish Brown (Manchester, Md./North Carroll) doubled home classmate Bethany Seyler (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville). BC answered with three runs in the bottom of first and three more in the third.

Sophomore Amanda Baldwin (Baltimore, Md./North County) singled home Brown in the fourth to narrow the gap to 6-2. However, Bridgewater added two insurance runs in the sixth to seal the win.

Brown was 2-for-3 with a double, an RBI and a run scored. Freshman Kaitlyn Wagner (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) was also 2-for-3 in the game.

Junior Lori Potts (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley) lasted just four innings allowing six runs on 10 hits while fanning two.

In the nightcap, Bridgewater scored five runs on four Bobcat errors to help earn the win. BC opened a 4-0 lead in the bottom of the first inning and added two more runs in the fourth, to take a 6-0 lead.

FSU mustered its only run in the in the sixth inning when Wagner singled home senior Megan Burner (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett). The Eagles closed out the game with three scores in the bottom of the sixth.

Wagner, senior Jessica Smith (LaVale, Md./Allegany) and junior Amanda Griswold (Rockville, Md./Magruder) each had a single, accounting for all three FSU hits in the game.

Senior starter Jen Cook (Cresaptown, Md./Allegany) suffered her first loss of the season lasting 5.1 innings allowing nine runs on 12 with striking out five.

FSU returns to action Wednesday when it travels to Mary Baldwin for a doubleheader at 2:00 pm.
