Space Still Available in Final FSU Summer Math Camp
08/05/2004

Space is still available in the last of Frostburg State University's summer math camps, which give students an opportunity to enhance their math skills over the summer. The final camp will be from Aug. 16 to 19, with a session from 9 a.m. to noon for fourth and fifth graders and one from 1 to 4 p.m. for sixth and seventh graders.

Sixth and seventh graders will explore George Polya's four-step problem solving logic: Understand a problem, devise a plan, carry out the plan and look back. They will explore different strategies such as guess and check, graphs and tables, working backwards or setting up equations. Fourth and fifth graders will explore Arithmetrix, tricks to use to solve arithmetic problems quickly. They will also explore some basic algebra, geometry and probability, with an emphasis on fun problems.

Instructor will be Dr. Laxman Hegde, who has taught in the FSU Mathematics Department for the past 12 years. All sessions will be in the FSU math lab in Dunkle Hall 211.
