Spring Fight Festival to be Held at FSU
04/29/2008

The Savage Mountain Stage Combat Club is holding a Spring Fight Festival, featuring fight master and stunt man Chuck Coyl, at Frostburg State University Performing Arts Center on Saturday, May 3. The festival includes two events open to the public for observation and participation: an adjudication of single sword and knife at 2:30 p.m. and a master class in single sword with Coyl at 4:30 p.m.

Coyl has been a member of the Society of American Fight Directors for 20 years and has held the title of president. He has also been a stunt coordinator and stunt player for television and film. Recent credits include stunt coordination for episodes of the “True Crime Authors” series on the History Channel and “Valley Forge: The Crucible” for the Discovery Channel. His work has appeared on the stages of the Actor’s Theatre of Louisville, Colorado Shakespeare Festival, Dallas Theatre Center, The Lyric Opera of Chicago, The Organic Theatre, and many others. Notable productions include the world premieres of “Killer Joe”, “The Point of Honor” and “Play Action.” He is a founding member of the Single Action Theatre Company and is on the faculty of the Actor’s Gymnasium and Roosevelt University.

Participants will learn how to “act” a fight, perform safe choreographed routines and understand the principles of safe stage fighting.

The festival is partially funded by the FSU Student Government Association and is open to the public. For more information, contact Darrell S. Rushton at 301-687-4487or dsrushton@frostburg.edu.
