Frostburg State junior Justin Stephens (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett)
has been named the 2003 Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Men's Tennis Player of the Year in a recent vote by the league's head coaches.
Stephens compiled a stellar 17-2 singles record this season, highlighted by a 13-match winning streak, and was also 12-7 in doubles play.
He posted a perfect 6-0 mark in AMCC singles play and led the Bobcats to a runner-up finish at the AMCC Tournament earlier this month.
Penn State Altoona edged FSU, 11-9, to claim its second straight league crown.
At the conference championships, Stephens captured the No. 1 singles title and teamed with sophomore Gary Lyst (Silver Spring, Md./Blair) for a second-place finish at No. 1 doubles.
Penn State Altoona freshman Sean Condit earned the Newcomer of the Year award after winning titles at No. 4 singles and No. 2 doubles at the AMCC Tournament.
Penn State Altoona's Steve Genter and Penn State Behrend's Jeff Barger shared Coach of the Year honors.
FSU finished 11-6 overall and 4-2 in the AMCC under first-year head coach Stuart Swink. The Bobcats return five of seven players next year.
