Frostburg State University’s Student Center for Volunteerism (SVC) has received a grant from mtvU and Youth Venture to aid the center’s many volunteer activities.
SVC, under the leadership of SVC President, Nadine McDonald, was selected to receive the $500 mtvU grant.
mtvU is MTV’s 24-hour college network reaching over 700 campuses nationwide. Throughout the year, mtvU grants are awarded to teams of young people at mtvU partner schools who have proposed a new, sustainable community service or social entrepreneurship project which addresses a well documented need within the community.
“College students have always been an engine for social change and over 90% of this generation believes that happens at the local level,” said Stephen Friedman, general manager of mtvU. “We hope these grants will help jumpstart their vision.”
“All of the members of SCV collaborated ideas of what we felt the organization could grow to be and decided that this was a perfect opportunity for us to make those dreams come true,” said McDonald.
"Nadine’s commitment to the expansion of the Student Center to reach every FSU student demonstrates not only her commitment to FSU, but her commitment to our western Maryland communities,” said Cheri Krug, director of FSU’s Center for Volunteerism and National Service.
The FSU SCV is a student-run organization. It is dedicated to creating volunteer experiences for fellow students and to help facilitate programs administered through the FSU’s Center for Volunteerism and National Service.
The mtvU Grant Program, launched January 2004, is a joint partnership of mtvU and Youth Venture exclusively for students at mtvU partner schools. Students can still apply for the mtvU Grants giving the chance to receive up to $1,500 toward their community improvement project, access to organization-building tools and resources, and a chance to be featured on mtvU.
