- The Frostburg State University men’s and women’s swimming teams swept Bethany College in a dual meet in Bethany, W.Va., Wednesday evening.
The women (5-6) won 105-80, while the men (8-3) also dominated, 113-92. For the men’s side it is the sixth straight victory in dual meets, while the women have won four out of the last five.
On the men’s side, FSU picked up eight first-place finishes. Sophomore’s C.C. Williams (Fort Mill/Fort Mill, S.C.), Chris Williams (Baltimore City College/Baltimore, Md.)and Sean Leaman (Bethesda-Chevy Chase/Bethesda, Md.) each won two events.
C.C. Williams finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 1:59.78 and then teamed with seniors Jeff Cameron (Mt. Saint Joseph/Columbia, Md.) and Ryan Kentrus(Patuxent/Lusby, Md.), and freshman Ross Herman (Winston Churchill/North Potomac, Md.) to win the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 4:09.92.
Chris Williams finished first in the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.31 and also won the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 49.96.
Leaman won both the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:57.23) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:20.34). Senior Ben Marrapodi (C. Milton Wright/Forest Hill, Md.) finished first in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:09.06. Herman also claimed a top finish as he won the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 58.21.
On the women’s side, FSU took seven top spots, led by sophomores Heather Hamor (Lackey/Nanjemoy, Md.) and Kristin Moats (Loudoun County/Leesburg, Va.).
Moats claimed three events as she won the 200-yard individual medley (2:26.07), the 100-yard butterfly (1:02.90) and the 100-yard backstroke (1:10.67).
Hamor finished first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:59.37) and also won the 500-yard freestyle (5:45.24).
Freshman Megan Falls (Kingsway Regional/Swedesboro, N.J.) finished first in the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:10.86, and the team of juniors Ashley Hedges (Thomas Johnson/Frederick, Md.) and Kim Kaiser (Severna Park/Severna Park, Md.), and seniors Kerri Wolfensberger (North Hagerstown/Hagerstown, Md.) and Kelly Jones (Glenelg/Woodbine, Md.) won the 400-yard medley relay with a time of 5:05.42.
Both teams will next face Penn State Behrend and Penn State Altoona in Erie, Pa. on Saturday, January 24th at 2:00 p.m.
