Swimming & Diving Wins One and Loses Three in Tri-Meet at Grove City.

GROVE CITY, PA — The Frostburg State men's swimming and diving team defeated West Virginia Wesleyan 69-36 and lost to Grove City College 56-52 in today's double-dual at Grove City College. The women lost to West Virginia Wesleyan 69-42 and to Grove City 68-43.

On the men's side freshman Chris Williams (Baltimore City College/Baltimore, Md.) won the 50-yard freestyle with a time of 22.55 and the 100-yard freestyle with 49.67. In both those events, Williams scored his personal best time.

Junior John Mayden (Arlington Baptist/Baltimore, Md.) won two events. First, in the 200-yard IM (2:02.59), his personal best, and then in the 200 breaststoke (2:14.94). Freshman Jay Ferrari (Riverhill/Columbia, Md.) came up big with a win in the 200-yard butterfly (2:04.54)

On the women's side, freshman Kristen Moats (Loudoun County/Leesburg, Va.) captured the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:04.54 and finished second in the 100-yard freestyle (57:21), while senior Lauren Crystal (Atholton/Columbia, Md.) captured the 50-yard freestyle in 26.11

Senior Cindy Reese (Westminster/Westminster, Md.) won both the 1- and 3-meter diving events, scoring 209.55 and 168.65 points, respectively. Finishing second behind Reese in both diving events was sophomore Audrey Shipe (Northern/Oakland, Md.) with a score of 132.85 in the 1-meter and 121.80 in the 3-meter.

Head Coach Chip Villarreal said the two teams are gaining confidence and setting themselves up for the rest of the season with some strong swims.

"The men won some great swims and we had a really strong swim from Kristin Moats and an impressive showing by Cindy Reese and Audrey Shipe in the diving."

Frostburg State returns to action Saturday, November 23, at home versus Randolph-Macon at 1:00p.m.
