Swimming Falls to Washington & Jefferson

FROSTBURG, Md. — The Frostburg State swimming teams fell to Washington and Jefferson Saturday. The men lost 117-82 while the women suffered a 126-70 setback.

Sophomore Amanda Delaney (Frostburg, Md./Beall) recorded the only first-place finish on the women’s team when she captured the 100-meter butterfly title (1:31.66). She was also runner-up in the 100-meter breaststroke (1:36.89).

Sophomore Stephanie Deming (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) took home a second-place finish in the 100-meter butterfly (1:32.89) followed by Kiara Yarberough (Baltimore,Md./Western) who finished in third place (1:41.27).

Sophomore Shannon Dunnigan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) was third in the 800-meter freestyle (10:20.32) while classmate Megan Demming (Clinton, Md./Oxon Hill) was third in the 200-yard freestyle in 2:27.50.

A pair of freshman also took home third-place finishes. Kelly Wiley (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) finished the 100-meter freestyle with a time of 1:07.30 and Mindy Yost (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) completed the 100-meter backstroke in 1:25.57.

The 200-meter medley relay team of Yarberough, Megan Demming, sophomore Shannon Hurkett (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) and freshman Keisha Lewis (Washington, D.C./Marriot Hospitality Public Charter) was third in 2:55.56.

On the men’s side, senior Chris Williams (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) recorded a pair of first-place finishes. He was first in both the 50-meter freestyle (24.55) and 100-meter butterfly (1:01.65).

In the 100-meter freestyle, the Bobcats captured the top three positions. Freshman Brandon Greenfield (Bowie, Md./Bowie) was first (59.17), junior Matt Nestor (Westminster, Md./Calvert Hall) was second (1:08.78) and sophomore Allen Miller (Seabrook, Md./DuVal) recorded third (1:32.36).

Senior Calvin Kiple (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) was third in the 100-meter butterfly (1:29.52) and classmate Sean Leaman (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) was third in the 400-meter freestyle (4:42.29).

Frostburg State returns to action Saturday, January 28 when it hosts St. Vincent at 2:00 pm.
