BUCHANON, W.Va. —
The Frostburg State men’s and women’s swimming teams had a strong outing at NCAA Division II West Virginia Wesleyan Saturday.
The men’s team was led by senior Sean Leaman (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) who took home third place in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:51.41) and 400-yard IM (4:44.57). He also joined senior J.D. Ottey (Frederick, Md./Thomas Johnson), junior Will Cross (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) and freshman Josh Scurry (Baltimore, Md./Dunbar) on the 200-yard medley relay team that took home second with a time of 1:59.24.
Seniors Chris Williams (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) and Kevin Nolan also had fine performances as Williams was first in the 50-yard freestyle (22.52) and Nolan recorded third in the 200-yard butterfly (2:15.88). Junior Brendon Craig (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) was third in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.40.
In the women’s events, sophomore Shannon Dunnigan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) was outstanding with first-place finishes in both the 1,000-yard freestyle (12:00.82) and 200-yard butterfly (2:24.52). She also captured second in the 400-yard IM (5:08.45).
Senior Heather Hamor (Nanjemoy, Md./Lackey) was also first in two events, the 100 (58.10) and 200-yard freestyles (2:06.87). She also teamed with sophomore Amanda Delaney (Frostburg, Md./Beall) and freshmen Mindy Yost (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) and Kelly Wiley (Lusby, Md./Patuxent) to take second in the 200-yard medley relay (2:15.78).
Freshman Michelle Nash (Columbia, Md./Hammond) was second in the 50-yard freestyle (28.30) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (1:02.34). Wiley and Delaney also captured third place finishes on the afternoon. Wiley was third in the 50-yard freestyle (28.63) and Delaney was third in the 400-yard IM (5:48.80).
Frostburg State returns to action at the Grove City Invitational on February 9-11.
