GROVE CITY, Pa. —
The Frostburg State women’s swimming team improved on day two of the Grove City Invitational Friday. The women moved up to sixth position overall out of 10 teams while the men slipped a spot and fell to seventh.
The 800-yard freestyle relay team of senior Heather Hamor (Nanjemoy, Md./Lackey), junior Megan Falls (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional), sophomore Shannon Dunnigan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) and freshman Michelle Nash (Columbia, Md./Hammond) captured fifth place (8:45.87) while the 200-yard medley relay team of Hamor, sophomores Shannon Hurkett (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) and Amanda Delaney (Frostburg, Md./Beall) and freshman Mindy Yost (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) were ninth (2:14.61).
Hamor led the Bobcat women with the highest individual finish when she took home 12th in the 200-yard freestyle (2:05.99). In the 1,00-yard freestyle, Falls was 13th and Hurkett was 16th with times of 12:01.02 and 12:13.60, respectively.
Yost turned in a solid effort in the 100-yard backstroke, finishing 13th with a time of 1:10.03 while Delaney was 14th in the 400-yard IM in 5:50.53.
The men’s team was powered with a fifth-place finish by the 800-yard freestyle relay team comprised of seniors Chris Williams (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College), Brendon Craig (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township), Kevin Nolan and Sean Leaman (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase).
Leaman recorded the highest individual men’s performance with a 10th-place showing (10:34.35) in the 1,000-yard freestyle. Williams also had a fine outing placing 11th in the 100-yard butterfly (54.57) while Nolan recorded 14th (56.33).
Freshman Pat Hutchinson (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) took home 15th place in the 100-yard breaststroke in 1:08.87.
Frostburg State returns to action this evening with the finals starting at 5:30 pm.
