ALTOONA, Pa. —
The Frostburg State swimming teams split a tri-match with Penn State Altoona and Penn State Behrend Staurday afternoon. The Bobcat men won with 101 points followed by PSA with 67 and PSB with 35. The women finished second with 68 points, behind champion PSA (78 ponts) and ahead of PSB (49 points).
For the second-straight meet, seniors Chris Williams (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) and Sean Leaman (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) each recorded two first-place finishes while collecting another victory as part of a relay team.
Williams won the 50 (22.45) and 100-yard freestyles (50.05) while Leaman took home first in the 1,000-yard freestyle (10:55.78) and 100-yard backstroke (1:05.55). They teamed with senior Brendon Craig (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) and freshman Pat Hutchinson (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West) to win the 400-yard freestyle relay (3:43.83).
Craig also had a solid individual meet winning the 200-yard IM (2:21.25) and taking second in the 500-yard freestyle 5:25.37).
Hutchinson and juniors Will Cross (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) and Kyle Meyer (Clifton, Va./Centreville) each captured a second and third-place finish during the meet. Hutchinson was second in the 100-yard breaststroke (1:11.08) and third in the 100-yard freestyle (56.34). Cross took home second in the 200-yard freestle (2:11.83) and third in the 500-ard freestyle (6:07.98) while Meyer was second in the 100-yard backstroke (1:12.49) and third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:15.02).
The FSU women were led by senior Heaher Hamor (Nanjemoy, Md./Lackey) who captured victory in the 100-yard freestyle (58.18) and second in the 50-yard freestyle (26.95).
Sophomore Shannon Dunnigan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) had a pair of second place finishes on the afternoon. She was runner-up in the both the 500 (5:44.03) and 1,000-yard freestyles (11:54.68).
Freshman Michelle Nash (Columbia, Md./Hammond) was second in the 200-yard freestyle (2:16.24) and third in the 100-yard butterfly (1:13.43). The 400-yard freestyle relay team of Nash, junior Megan Falls (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional), sophomore Shannon Hurkett (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) and freshman Malinda Yost (Glen Burnie, Md./Old Mill) finished in first place in 4:17.40.
Frostburg State returns to action Saturday, January 28 when it hosts St. Vincent at 2:00 pm.
