Swimming Sweeps Gallaudet

WASHINGTON — The Frostburg State swimming teams swept host Gallaudet University on Sunday. The Bobcat men posted a 107-31 victory, while the FSU women won, 90-43.

In men's action, Frostburg State captured the first eight events to cruise to the easy win.

Sophomore Ben Marrapodi (Forest Hill, Md./C. Milton Wright), sophomore Greg Barnhart (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus), freshman Patrick Serrano (Olney, Md./Blake) and sophomore Ryan Kentrus (St. Leonard, Md./Patuxent) opened the meet with a win in the 200-meter relay in 2:06.23.

Junior Matt Brew (Silver Spring, Md./Sherwood) followed with a victory in the 1650-meter freestyle in 21:29.53, and sophomore Brian Flynn (Bridgewater, Conn./Shepaug Valley) turned in wins in both the 200-meter freestyle (2:01.17) and 100-meter butterfly (1:02.30).

Kentrus captured the 50-meter freestyle in 24.00 seconds before senior Kelly Ryan (Silver Spring, Md./Good Counsel) took home the 200-meter individual medley in 2:07.66.

Senior Jay Garner (Darnestown, Md./Quince Orchard) won the 100-meter freestyle (50.33), and sophomore Kevin Nolan (Annandale, Va./Annandale) claimed the 100-meter backstroke (1:04.98).

On the women's side, junior Siona Walsh (Twin Falls, Idaho/Bellows Free Academy, Vt.) led the way with wins in both the 200-meter freestyle (2:17.32) and 100-meter backstroke (1:10.63).

Walsh also teamed with junior Jessie Bley (Fort Washington, Md./Gwynn Park), senior Alex Morrison (Toms River, N.J./Toms River) and freshman Stephanie Carrigo (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) to capture the 200-meter freestyle relay.

Freshman Kim Kaiser (Severna Park, Md./Severna Park) won both the 500-meter freestyle (6:51.95) and the 100-meter breaststroke (1:59.93), while Bley claimed the 200-meter individual medley (2:36.03).

Frostburg State will host Marymount University on Friday at 1 p.m.
