— The Frostburg State men’s and women’s swimming and diving teams swept Hood College Saturday evening. The men won 130-17 to improve to 2-5 on the season, while the women were victorious 104-95 to raise their record to 3-5.
Junior Sean Leaman (Bethesda, Md./Bethesda-Chevy Chase) led the men with three first-place finishes, winning the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:02.00), the 400-yard individual medley (4:51.21) and the 500-yard freestyle (5:18.68).
For the second straight meet, junior Chris Williams (Baltimore, Md./Baltimore City College) posted a pair of first-place finishes, claiming the 50-yard freestyle in 22.51 and the 100-yard freestyle in 50.60. Junior Brendon Craig (Lanoka Harbor, N.J./Lacey Township) also captured victories in both the 200-yard freestyle (2:01.28) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:46.79).
Junior Calvin Kiple (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) recorded a first-place finish in the 200-yard butterfly with a time of 3:06.46 and sophomore Kyle Meyer (Clifton, Va./Centreville) finished first in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:50.29.
Sophomore Will Cross (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) recorded the only Bobcat second-place finish at the meet, finishing the 1,000-yard freestyle in 12:39.76.
The 200-yard medley relay team of Myers, Craig, Williams and sophomore Tom Sandor (Somerset, Pa./Somerset) finished first in 2:02.77.
On the women’s side, freshman Shannon Dunnigan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) finished first in the 200-yard butterfly (2:22.76) and was second in both the 500-yard freestyle (5:43.04) and the 1,000-yard freestyle (11:45.15).
Junior Kristin Moats (Leesburg, Va./Loudoun County) recorded first-place finishes in the 400-yard individual medley (5:13.44) and the 200-yard breaststroke (2:42.07).
Junior Heather Hamor (Nanjemoy, Md./Lackey) captured a victory in the 100-yard freestyle with a time of 59.02 and finished second in the 50-yard freestyle in 27.27. Senior Melody Hanna (Frostburg, Md./Beall) won the 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:04.41 and freshman Beth Pallotta (Columbia, Md./Archbishop Spalding) took home a second-place finish in the 200-yard backstroke in 2:30.31.
In relay action, the 200-yard medley team of Pallota, freshman Julie Groetzinger (La Vale, Md./Bishop Walsh), freshman Amanda Delaney (Frostburg, Md./Beall) and sophomore Megan Falls (Swedesboro, N.J./Kingsway Regional) finished first with a time of 2:19.66.
