GROVE CITY, Pa.
- The Frostburg State swimming teams competed in the 10th Annual James E. Longnecker Invitational, held on the campus of Grove City, Friday and Saturday.
Washington & Jefferson, Carnegie Mellon, Hiram, Slippery Rock, Grove City, Buffalo State, Fairmont State, and Mount Union all competed in the meet.
The women’s team placed ninth with 100 points, while the men finished eighth with 31 points.
The women’s 200-yard freestyle relay consisting of Shannon Dunnigan (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright), Shelly Tobin, Thirza Roberto, and Mindy Yost placed 10th out of 16 teams with a time of 1:48.79.
Dunnigan also placed 10th (5:16.28) in the women’s 400-yard indvidual medley and 11th in the 200-yard butterfly (2:31.15).
Tobin captured 15th in the women’s 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:11.11, while teammate Roberto took home sixth place finishes in the women’s 200-yard (1:05.88) and 100-yard (1:05.88) backstrokes .
On the men’s side, the 200-yard medley relay team of sophomore Pat Hutchinson (Cherry Hill, N.J./Cherry Hill West), and freshmen Scott Gantz, Matt Horton, and Nate Haugh placed 12th with a time of 1:52.30.
The Bobcats also had three swimmers place in the top 25 for the men’s 500-yard freestyle. Senior Will Cross (Walkersville, Md./Walkersville) finished 22nd (5:40.45), while Hutchinson placed 24th (5:42.06) and Haugh took home 25th (6:03.54).
Frostburg State returns to action January 10 when they travel to Savannah at 7:00pm, during their Spring Training Trip to Florida.
