Taye, Myles Take Home National Titles at Outdoor Championships
05/28/2001

Decatur, Ill. ... Senior Michael Taye (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) and sophomore Dante Myles (Hyattsville, Md./Archbishop Carroll) each captured individual titles at the 2001 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field National Championships held last weekend at Millikin University in Decatur, Ill.

The duo helped the Bobcat men score 34 points and tie Wisconsin-Stevens Point for third place. Wisconsin La Crosse won the men's title with 80 points, while Lincoln was the runner-up with 60.

Taye capped a brilliant career by winning the 5,000-meter run in 14:51.36, breaking away from the pack with 900 meters remaining and holding on for the victory. He also finished third in the 10,000 meters in 30:49.97 to record 16 of FSU's 34 team points.

He earned his ninth and 10th track All-America honors and added to his 10,000-meter outdoor and 5,000-meter indoor championships he won in 1999.

Myles enjoyed an outstanding championship meet, finishing second in the 100-meter dash before winning the 200 meters. He turned in a time of 10.65 seconds in the 100, just .01 behind winner Chaz Clemons of Lincoln University, and won his first national title with a strong 21.62 finish in the 200.

Myles accounted for 18 team points and was named the Men's Track Athlete of the Meet for his efforts. Taye won similar honors in 1999.

Sophomore Karold Gray (Bowie, Md./Southern) qualified for the 200-meter dash but did not advance to the final.
