Former Frostburg State baseball standout Mark Teson (Shaker, N.Y./Latham)
recently signed a professional contract with the Kansas City T-Bones of the Northern League.
Teson made his professional debut July 10, starting in left field in the T-Bones’ 7-6, 10-inning win at Sioux Falls.
He went 0-2 with two walks and was hit by a pitch. He was caught stealing and also threw a Sioux Falls runner out at second.
Teson was a three-year starter in center field for the Bobcats after transferring from Division II Dowling (N.Y.) College.
He finished with a .324 career batting average, drew a school-record 101 walks and was 45-of-54 in stolen base attempts. His 126 runs ranks third on the FSU all-time chart, and his 27 doubles is tied for seventh.
Teson helped the Bobcats to a combined 76-42-1 record, two AMCC runner-up finishes and an appearance in the ECAC Tournament.
This past season, Teson earned second-team All-AMCC honors after hitting .365, walking a school-record 42 times and tying another Bocat mark by scoring 50 runs. FSU finished an impressive 31-12-1.
Considered the pre-eminent modern era independent league, the Northern League consists of 10 teams – St. Paul (Minn.), Winnipeg (Manitoba, Canada), Schaumburg (Ill.), Joliet (Ill.), Gary (Ind.), Fargo-Moorhead (N.D.), Kansas City (Kan.), Lincoln (Neb.), Sioux Falls (S.D.) and Sioux City (Iowa). Twenty-seven Northern League players have gone on to play in the major leagues, including J.D. Drew (St. Louis), Kevin Millar (Florida/Boston), Rey Ordonez (N.Y. Mets/Tampa Bay) and Jeff Zimmerman (Texas).
