LANDOVER, Md. —
The Frostburg State track & field team competed at the University of Maryland Invitational Saturday at the PGSL Center.
Sophomore David Cheeks (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) led the men’s squad with a personal record and ninth-place finish (22.80) in the 200-meter dash. He later recorded 23rd place in the 400-meter dash in 51.49. Sophomore Arien Heggs (Arlington, Va./Wakefield) took home 44th in the 200-meter dash wth a time of 24.29.
In the 800-meter run, three Bobcats had solid finishes. Freshman Brian Leiter (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key) captured 30th place in 2:00.81, senior Brian Bonn (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) was 36th (2:02.10) and junior Andy Watson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) was 39th (2:02.50).
In the 3,000-meter run, senior Ron Lipscomb (Lonaconing, Md./Northern Garrett) was 31st with a time of 9:16.80, junior Andrew Parker (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) was 38th (9:27.74) followed by sophomore Zach Gaudette (Queenstown, Md./Kent Island) with a 46th-place finish (9:52.19).
Sophomore Curt Ruble (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South) was 25th in the one-mile run (4:34.67).
The team of Cheeks, Bonn, Leiter and Watson combined for a 20th-place finish in the 4x400-meter relay in 3:40.80.
Freshman Sumer Rohrs (Frostburg, Md./Forest (Fl.)) led the women’s team with a 12-place finish (9.30) in the 60-meter hurdles followed by a 21st-place showing in the 200-meter dash (26.74).
Sophomore Adrienne Raiford (Capitol Heights, Md./Gwynn Park) also had a solid meet. She was 29th in the 200-meter dash (26.74) and 33rd in the 400-meter dash (1:02.47).
In the 800-meter run, freshman Megan Patton (Barton, Md./Westmar) took home 65th (3:11.46) and sophomore Diane Baker (Finksburg, Md./Westminster) was 67th (3:23.26).
In the 3,000-meter run, freshman Jennifer Patton (Barton, Md./Westmar) led FSU finishing 22nd (11:35.82) while classmate Katie Lyell (Newark, Del./Newark) recorded 39th (12:37.21).
In the shot put, senior Jennifer Waskiewicz (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) was 46th with a distance of 8.29 meters. Freshman Carolyn Sunderlin (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) was 50th with a throw of 8.09 meters.
Frostburg State returns to action January 27-28 when it travels to the Penn State Open in University Park, Pa.
