The track and field teams participated in the Last Chance Meet Saturday at Icahn Stadium in New York.
Freshman Sumer Rohrs (Frostburg, Md./Forest) paced the women’s team with a first-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (14.83) and eighth place in the 400-meter dash with a personal best 58.57. Sophomore Jessica Clingan (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) had a strong showing placing third in the 100-meter hurdles (15.20) and eighth in the 400-meter hurdles with a personal best time of 1:05.39.
Freshman Jennifer Patton (Barton, Md./Westmar) finished fourth in the 5,000-meter run with a time of 20:14.42, while senior Chelsea Lewis (Hagerstown, Md./Pike) took sixth in the 100-meter dash (12.70).
The 4x100-meter relay team of Rohrs, Clingan, Lewis and freshman Ashlee Resh (Sipesville, Pa./Somerset) placed fourth with a time of 48.18, qualifying for the NCAA national meet. The 4x400-meter relay team of Resh, Clingan, Rohrs and freshman Grace Reed (Washington, D.C./Benjamin Bannekar) took sixth with a time of 4:10.10, qualifying for the Eastern College Athletic Conference championship meet.
In the field events, senior Jenn Waskiewicz (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) placed fifth in the javelin throw (21.36m), eighth in the shot put (9.83m) and ninth in both the discus throw (23.6m) and hammer throw (30.60m).
Freshman Caroyln Sunderlin (Mt. Airy, Md./South Carroll) was fifth in the shot-put with 10.38 meters and 10th in the discus throw with 23.42 meters.
On the men’s side, sophomore David Cheeks (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) led the way finishing second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 22.38.
Junior Andy Watson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) took home 14th in the 1,500-meter run with a personal best time of 4:04.61. In the 800-meter run, freshman Brian Leiter (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key) was eighth (1:54.39) and classmate Nicholas Schiefelbein (Kensington, Md./Albert Einstein) finished 15th (1:57.19). Both set personal records with their performances.
The 4x100-meter relay team of Cheeks, Schiefelbein, and freshmen Tade Turton (Pittsville, Md./Riverside) and Michael Siemann (Frostburg, Md./Bishop Walsh) took fifth with a time of 44.77. The 4x400-meter relay team of Cheeks, Schiefelbein, Turton and Leiter placed eighth with a time of 3:40.30.
FSU will return to action on May 18 and 19 when the qualifying runners travel to the ECAC meet in Springfield, Mass.
