INDIANA, PA –
The Frostburg State men’s and women’s track and field teams set numerous personal records at the Indiana University of Pennsylvania Open last Saturday.
On the men’s side, nine personal records were established.
Junior Paul Joseph (Washington, D.C./Williamsport, Md.) set personal-bests in both the 100-meter dash (12.61, 19th) and the 200-meter dash (25.97, 29th).
Sophomore Jonas Horst (Clear Spring, Md./Clear Spring) was 16th in the 200-meter dash (personal-record 23.68) and was also 22nd in the long jump (18-3).
Junior Brian Bonn (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) set a personal mark in the 800-meter run (1:55.54, third), while freshman Josh Dawson (North East/Elkton, Md.) added a personal record as well (2:03.20, 20th). Sophomore Calvin Kiple (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) finished 29th (2:18.76).
Freshman Scott Yanus (Damascus, Md./Damascus) set a personal record in the 1,500-meter run, finishing 24th in a time of 4:20.34. Junior Kevin Ripple (Mechanicsville, Md./Leonardtown) was 29th (4:27.13), junior Jonathan Masse (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) was 30th (4:31.30), freshman Stephen Forsha (Rockville, Md./Magruder) was 31st (4:32.17) and freshman Andrew Parker (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) 33rd (4:33.81).
Freshman Stephen Jackson (Fort Washington, Md./Eleanor Roosevelt) placed 21st in the 400-meter dash (56.85)
Sophomore Justin Marshall (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill) was 38th in the 5,000-meter run (17:55.38), while freshman Matt Litts (Arnold, Md./Broadneck) followed in 41st (18:50.54).
The 4x100-meter relay team of sophomore Nick Poulos (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook), Jackson, freshman Bryan Powers (Baltimore, Md./Archbishop Curley) and Horst finished fourth with a time of 46.19, while the 4x400-meter relay team of Poulos, Bonn, Powers and Jackson was sixth in 4:23.28.
Freshman James Pruitt (Stafford, Va./Stafford) finished 17th in the shot put (39-1.25), sophomore J.T. Hoover (Warton, Md./Kent County) was 23rd (PR 36-8.25), freshman Matt Mosslih (Temple Hill, Md./Bishop McNamara) was 25th (PR 35-0.5) and freshman Jimmy Haddix (Frederick, Md./Frederick) was 27th (27-7).
In the discus, Hoover was 27th (95-2) and Mosslih was 29th (85-0).
Junior Patrick Malone (Glen Garnder, N.Y./Voorhees) finished 22nd (154-1) in the javelin, while freshman Brandon Bowersox (Baltimore, Md./Vernon Township) followed in 24th (148-1).
On the women’s side, sophomore Chelsea Lewis (Indianapolis, Ind./Pike) finished seventh in the 100-meter dash (13.21) and ninth in the 200-meter dash (season-best 27.10).
Junior Lynnea Finch (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) was 12th in the 800-meter run (season-best 2:25.64), while senior Beth Sauder (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) finished 23rd (2:32.33) and freshman Sheila Kurtz (Thurmont, Md./Boonsboro) 32nd (2:49.17).
Sauder added a 19th-place finish in the 1,500-meter run in a personal-record 5:09.29.
Sophomore Laura Knight (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) tied for 11th in the pole vault (9-3).
Sophomore Jennifer Waskiewicz (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) finished 17th in the shot put (32-4.25) and 18th in the discus (85-9), while freshman Ashley Ermer (Sykesville, Md./Liberty) was 21st in the shot put (16-2.75) and 20th in the discus (47-8).
The Bobcats return to action this weekend when they compete at the Mason Dixon Conference Championships in Newport News, Va.
