Track & Field Teams Exceed Expectations at Bison Outdoor Classic

LEWISBURG, PA — The track and field teams participated in the Bison Outdoor Classic held on the campus of Bucknell University, Friday and Saturday.

Freshman Brian Leiter (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key) set a personal best and qualified for the Eastern College Athletic Conference championship meet after finishing seventh in the 800-meter run with a time of 1:54.88, while classmate Nicholas Schiefelbein (Kensington, Md./Albert Einstein) placed 34th with a personal-record time of 1:59.17.

Sophomore Kevin White (Reisterstown, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) qualified for the ECAC meet and set a personal-best time with a 15th-place finish in the 400-meter dash (50.44).

In the 5,000-meter run, junior Andy Watson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) was 57th and set a personal-record time of 15:24.48 while sophomore Curt Ruble (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South) also set a personal best, with a 21st-place finish and a time of 32:39.26 in the 10,000-meter run.

Freshman Steve Flannagan (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) was 24th in the 400-meter hurdles in 1:03.13.

“The men’s team was impressive to watch,” said Head Coach Felix Moreno. “They are making excellent decisions by putting themselves in a position to perform well.”

On the women’s side, freshman Sumer Rohrs (Frostburg, Md./Forest) paced the team with a sixth-place finish in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.14) and a seventh-place finish in the 100-meter hurdles (15.20).

Sophomore Jessica Clingan (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) qualified for the ECAC meet after finishing eighth and ninth place in the 400-meter hurdles (1:05.98) and the 100-meter hurdles (15.72), respectively.

Senior Chelsea Lewis (Hagerstown, Md./Pike) added a ninth-place finish in the 100-meter dash (12.70) and a 12th-place finish in the 200-meter dash (26.22). She qualified for the ECAC meet in both events.

In the 5,000-meter, freshman Jennifer Patton (Barton, Md./Westmar) was 57th and set a personal best with a time of 19:27.70.

“The women’s team is developing quite well and they performed as expected,” added Moreno. “I’m looking forward to seeing the team is action at Gettysburg,”

FSU returns to action April 22 when it travels to the Mason Dixon Invitational in Gettysburg, Pa.
