Both the Frostburg State men’s and women’s track and field teams turned out impressive performances at the West Virginia University Holiday Invitational, Saturday. The Bobcats received impressive performances against a field primarily composed of Division I programs.
Sophomore All-American Sumer Rohrs (Frostburg, Md./Forest) led the way for women’s team. She qualified for the Eastern Collegeg Athletic Conference Championship meet with a pair of fourth-place finishes in both the 60-meter dash (7.89) and 200-meter dash (26.35).
She also qualified for the ECAC and NCAA National meets and set the FSU school record in the 60-meter hurdles (8.93) after taking fifth.
Sophmore Jessica Clingan (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) took home fourth in the 800-meter dash in 2:31.84 and qualified for the NCAA and ECAC meets and set a personal record placing seventh in the 60-meter hurdles in 9.10.
Freshman Lauren Kuhn (Philadelphia, Pa./Perkiomen Valley) finished in eighth in the 800-meter dash (2:38.78) while classmate Jessica Dabulskis captured 19th in the 60-meter hurdles (10.13).
The 4x400-meter relay team of Rohrs, Clingan, Kuhn and Dabulskis finished sixth in 4:17.02.
On men’s side, the Bobcats captured victories in four events; the 60-meter, 200-meter and 400-meter dashses as well as the 800-meter run.
Junior David Cheeks (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) started things off with a first-place finish in the 60-meter dash (7.07) and fifth in the 200-meter dash (23.56).
Sophomore Tade Turton (Pittsville, Md./Riverside) won the 200-meter dash (22.95) and finished third in the 60-meter dash (7.16).
In the 400-meter dash, junior Kevin Williams-White (Reisterstown, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) was first with a time of 51.61 while sophomore Michael Siemann (Frostburg, Md./Bishop Walsh) was seventh in 54.17.
Junior Nicholas Schiefelbein (Kensington, Md./Albert Einstein) led the way in the 800-meter run with a first-place finish in 2:01.3 while sophomore Steve Flanagan (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) landed in 10th (2:16.43).
In the field events, freshman Michael O'Brien (Baltimore, Md./Arundel) took home eighth in the high jump (1.78).
The men’s 4x400-meter relay team of Schiefelbein, Turton, Cheeks and Siemann finished in second place in 3:32.13.
“I am extremely excited with both teams performances,” said Head Coach Felix Moreno. “They have trained very hard for eight weeks. The men are running well and the women have two of the top hurdlers for the NCAA Division III meet.”
Frostburg State returns to action on Decmber 9th when it travels to Collegeville, Pa. for the Ursinus Winter Classic.
