CANTON, N.Y. —
Frostburg State concluded its indoor track and field season at the Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Track & Field Championships March 4 and 5 at St. Lawrence University’s Newell Field House.
The Bobcat men scored three points to finish 29th out of 32 teams, while the women scored two points to tie Oswego State for 34th out of 36 teams. The College of New Jersey won the men’s title with 115 points, and SUNY-Geneseo captured the women’s crown with 118 points.
Senior Brian Bonn (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) turned in the best showing of the day for FSU, finishing sixth in the 800-meter run in 1:57.86 and garnering all three team points for the men.
Sophomore Andy Watson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) was ninth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:04.94, while freshman Desmond Wars (New Windsor, Md./Westminster) was 18th in the long jump with a distance of 20-5.25.
Freshman Jess Clingan (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) placed seventh in the 500-meter dash in 1:21.89 to record FSU’s two team points. She was also 13th in the 55-meter hurdles in 8.88 seconds and 18th in the 200-meter dash in 27.13 seconds.
Junior Chelsea Lewis (Hagerstown, Md./Pike (Ind.)) finished ninth in the 200-meter dash in 26.64 seconds, just missing scoring team points by one spot. She was also 10th in the preliminaries of the 55-meter dash in 7.55 but did not qualify for the finals.
Sophomore Bonnie Axman (Burke, Va./Robinson) was ninth in the 5,000-meter run in 18:36.57, again missing team points by one place.
Freshman Bekah Rauch (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) competed in the pole vault but failed to make a height.
"This was the most individual athletes we have taken to the ECAC Championships in my time here, and this young team is learning how to compete at major championship meets," said Bobcat Head Coach Felix Moreno.
