UNIVERSITY PARK, Pa. —
Several members of the Frostburg State track and field teams turned in solid performances at the Penn State National Open held this past weekend at the Horace Ashenfelter III Indoor Track.
The team of freshmen Trevor Albro (Purcellville, Va./Loudoun Valley), freshman Kevin White (Reisterstown, Md./Mt. St. Joseph), Ryan Chew (Washington, D.C./Blake) and Ryan Abe (Frostburg, Md./Beall) finished the 4x400-meter relay in a time of 3:30.77, just shy of the ECAC qualifying mark of 3:27.54.
The women’s relay team of freshman Jess Clingan (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport), sophomore Adrienne Raiford (Capitol Heights, Md./Gwynn Park), freshman Stephanie Potter (Ellicott City, Md./Seton Keough) and junior Chelsea Lewis (Hagerstown, Md./Pike (Ind.)) posted a time of 4:16.84. The ECAC qualifiying standard is 4:10.24.
Junior Jenn Waskiewicz (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) posted a mark of 34-2.25 in the weight throw, while freshman Adam Jones (Homer City, Pa./United) turned in a distance of 41-0.5 in the shot put.
"Both relays ran great and are getting closer to qualifying for the ECAC Championships," said Bobcat Head Coach Felix Moreno. "We also had various competitors in the running and field events who performed well but did not advance. This meet is always an excellent opportunity for our athletes to compare themselves against Division I athletes and at the same time, it serves as a motivating factor for them to continue to work hard."
Frostburg State returns to action this Saturday in the West Virginia University State Farm Games in Morgantown, W.Va.
