Several Frostburg State track and field athletes set personal records at the Towson University Open last Saturday.
On the men's side, sophomore Randy Belt (Upper Marlboro, Md./Patuxent) met the provisional qualifying mark for the NCAA Championships in the 400-meter hurdles, finishing second in a personal-best time of 54.27 seconds.
Sophomore Dwayne Dabney (Baltimore, Md./Southwestern) set a personal-record in the 400-meter dash with his third-place showing in 49.92 seconds, while sophomore Greg Lambert (Columbia, Md./Hammond) was a close fourth in a season-best 49.97 seconds.
Sophomores Robert Powell (Laurel, Md./DeMatha) and Pat Malone (Glen Gardner, N.J./Voorhees) also set personal standards. Powell hit new marks in the discus (92-3) and and shot put (30-11), while Malone established a personal-best in the javelin with a third-place distance of 182-6.
Junior Jamar Nolan (Mechanicsville, Md./Chopticon) placed seventh in the high jump with a height of 5-10, and freshman Trey Hayes (Rockville, Md./Wheaton) was 10th in the hammer throw with a mark of 110-8.
Freshman Nathan Green (Ellicott City, Md./Mt. Hebron) finished seventh in the 1,500-meter run in 4:16.22, while freshman Jonathan Densmore (Bel Air, Md./C. Milton Wright) was 10th (4:23.18). Freshman Ron Lipscomb (Lonaconing, Md./Northern Garrett) placed 11th (4:23.86) and freshman Matt Price (Jefferson, Md./Brunswick) was 14th (4:36.63).
In the 800-meter run, freshman Jarred Boehner (Fredericksburg, Va./Courtland) placed eighth (1:59.63), Lipscomb 12th (2:08.20) and Densmore 13th (2:13.98).
Junior Mike Replogle (Union Bridge, Md./Francis Scott Key) was fourth (16:44.55) in the 5,000-meter run, while freshman Kevin Ripple (Mechanicsville, Md./Leonardtown) was ninth (17:25.33) and sophomore Jonathan Masse (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) 10th (17:56.17).
The 4x400-meter relay team of Dabney, Boehner, Belt and Lambert finished fourth in 3:23.54, while sophomore Travis Bouldin (Greensboro, Md./North Caroline) added a fourth-place showing in the triple jump at 44-0.75.
Freshman Will Millman (Gaithersburg, Md./Quince Orchard) hit a season-best height of 12-6 in the pole vault to place 10th, and sophomore Matt Holtzman (Exeter, Pa./Reading) finished 12th at 12-0.
In women's action, junior Maria Ferguson (Fairmount Heights, Md./Laurel) captured the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.19 seconds, her second-fastest performance of the year.
Sophomore Katy Eads (West Point, Iowa/Central Lee) was sixth in the 5,000-meter run in 20:46.91, while junior Inga Olsen (Thurmont, Md./Catoctin) as seventh in 21:09.07. Eads also placed sixth in the 1,500-meter run in 5:45.
The women's 4x100-meter relay team of freshman Lynnea Finch (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin), Ferguson, freshman Mysel Abrokwa (Takoma Park, Md./Blair) and junior Serena Wheeler (Baltimore, Md./Mergenthaler) finished second in 48.77 seconds, while the 4x400-meter relay team took second in 3:58.00 to meet the provisional qualifying standard for the NCAA National Championships and post the school's best time in the event since 1986.
Wheeler (58.01), Finch (60.96), Abrokwa (62.98) and Ferguson (55.62) each set personal records in their splits.
Sophomore Beth Sauder (Oakland, Md./Southern Garrett) placed fourth in 3,000-meter run in 11:59.30, and sophomore Julie Hoffman (Parkton, Md./Parkton) was seventh in 12:34.20.
