Track and Field Prepares for ECAC Meet

FROSTBURG, Md. — The Frostburg State men’s and women’s track and field teams are preparing for this weekend’s Eastern Collegiate Athletic Conference meet in Collegeville, Pa. on the campus of Ursinus College. This is the last chance for athletes to qualify for the NCAA national meet held March 10-11.

The Bobcat men have eight athletes competing in seven individual events and two relays.

Sophomore David Cheeks (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) will enter the 55-meter dash with a qualifying time of 6.47. He will also compete in the 200-meter dash (22.80) and the 400-mter run (50.64).

Junior Andy Watson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) will compete in the one-mile run (4:22.29) and the 1,000-meter run (2:35.28).

Sophomore Curt Ruble (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South) will run the 3,000-meter run (8:58.53) and freshman Brian Leiter (New Windsor, Md./Francis Scott Key) will enter the 800-meter run (1:57.06).

The 4x200-meter relay team of freshmen Tade Turton (Pittsville, Md./Riverside), Nicholas Schiefelbein (Kensington, Md./Albert Einstein), Steven Flanagan (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) and Michael Sieman (Frostburg, Md./Bishop Walsh) qualified with a time of 1:33.31.

The team of Watson, Leiter, Ruble and Sieman will compete in distance medley relay with a time of 10:22.17.

On the women’ side, freshman Sumer Rohrs (Frostburg, Md./Forest (Fla.)) will compete in four events; the 55-meter dash (7.46), 55-meter hurdles (8.43), 200-meter dash (26.29) and the 400-meter dash (59.83).

Sophomore Adrienne Raiford (Capitol Heights, Md./Gwynn Park) will enter three events; the 55-meter dash (7.27), 200-meter dash (26.52) and the 400-meter dash (1:00.21).

Rohrs and Raiford combine with sophomore Jess Clingan (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) and freshman Ashlee Resh (Sipesville, Pa./Somerset) in the 4x400-meter relay (4:08.69) and the 4x200-meter relay 1:50.26).

Senior Chelsea Lewis (Hagerstown, Md./Pike) is the third Bobcat to compete in both the 55-meter dash (7.43) and 200-meter dash (27.02).
