Track and Field Teams Sending Seven to ECAC Indoor Championships
03/01/2005

FROSTBURG, Md. — Frostburg State will be sending seven student-athletes to compete in the 2005 Eastern College Athletic Conference Division III Indoor Track & Field Championships to be held this weekend at St. Lawrence University in Canton, N.Y.

Four Bobcat women will compete in a total of seven events.

Freshman Jess Clingan (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) will run in three events — the 55-meter hurdles, the 200-meter dash and the 500-meter run.

Junior Chelsea Lewis (Hagerstown, Md./Pike (Ind.)) will race in both the 55- and 200-meter dashes, while sophomore Bonnie Axman (Burke, Va./Robinson) will compete in the 5,000-meter run.

Freshman Bekah Rauch (Venetia, Pa./Peters Township) will participate in the pole vault.

Three men will represent the Bobcats.

Senior Brian Bonn (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) will look to threaten in the 800-meter run. He set a Frostburg State school record in the event with a time of 1:54.72 February 19, eclipsing the previous mark of 1:55.73 set by Noel Cyrus in 1983.

Bonn currently owns the 13th-fastest time in the 800-meter run in Division III this season.

Freshman Desmond Wars (New Windsor, Md./Westminster) will compete in the long jump, while sophomore Andy Watson (Gaithersburg, Md./Damascus) will participate in the 1,500 meter run.

“The team and I are looking forward to the championships this weekend,” said Bobcat Head Coach Felix Moreno. “We should perform well at this meet.”
