Track and Field Teams Third at Goucher Classic

TOWSON, Md. — Both the Frostburg State men’s and women’s track and field teams finished third at the Goucher Classic Saturday.

The Bobcat men scored 82 points to finish behind Ursinus (170.5) and York (126.5), while the FSU won tallied 88 points to finish behind Ursinus (144) and host Goucher (95).

The FSU women looked strong, winning five events.

Junior Chelsea Lewis (Hagerstown, Md./Pike) won the 100-meter dash (13.59), sophomore Adrienne Raiford (Capitol Heights, Md./Gwynn Park) captured the 400-meter dash (62.38) and freshman Jess Clingan (Williamsport, Md./Williamsport) won both the 100-meter hurdles (16.44) and the 400-meter hurdles (69.14).

Senior Lynnea Finch (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin), Lewis, Clingan and Raiford captured the 4x100 meter relay in 52.34.

Finch finished third in the 400-meter dash (64.73), and junior Jenn Waskiewicz (Taneytown, Md./Union Bridge) placed third in the shot put (29-4.5).

Sophomore Melissa Durst (Midland, Md./Southern Garrett) was fourth in the 200-meter dash in 30.48 and sixth in the 400-meter dash in a personal-record 64.50, freshman Amanda Barnhart (Ligonier, Pa./Ligonier Valley) was fifth in the 800-meter run in 2:46.72 and freshman Christine Woody (Gambrills, Md./Arundel) was eighth in the 800-meter run in 2:50.83.

Barnhart added a seventh-place finish in the 1,500-meter run in 5:36.60.

Junior Carolyn Kilkus (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) and freshman Katie Lyell (Newark, Del./Newark) were third and fourth, respectively in the 5,000-meter run. Kilkus finished in 20:25.65, while Lyell was close behind in 20:25.78.

Frostburg State captured three events on the men’s side to spark their finish.

Senior Brian Bonn (Glen Burnie, Md./Glen Burnie) highlighted the day by winning the 800-meter run in 1:56.38, breaking both the stadium (1:57.66) and meet (2:00.53) records.

Freshman Kevin William-White (Reisterstown, Md./Mt. St. Joseph) won the 400-meter dash in 51.57, and freshman Curt Ruble (Parkersburg, W.Va./Parkersburg South) won the 1,500-meter run in 4:12.76.

Freshman Arien Heggs (Arlington, Va./Wakefield) was second in the 100-meter dash in 12.00, while in the 200-meter dash, sophomore Dave Cheeks (Baltimore, Md./Milford Mill) was third in 24.05 and freshman Ryan Chew (Washington, D.C./Blake) was sixth in 25.28.

Senior Ron Lipscomb (Lonaconing, Md./Northern Garrett) was fourth in the 1,500-meter run in 4:23.05, while freshman Dan Simmons (Westminster, Md./Westminster) was fifth in the event in 4:25.59.

In the 5,000-meter run, sophomore Andrew Parker (Silver Spring, Md./Springbrook) was second (16:08.67, a personal record by 30 seconds), freshman Zach Gaudette (Queenstown, Md./Kent Island) was fourth (16:32.53), junior Sid Bittinger (Midland, Md./Westmar) was fifth (16:43.44) and senior Jonathan Masse (Cumberland, Md./Fort Hill) was seventh (17:00.85).

Freshman Adam Jones (Homer City, Pa./United) was fifth in the javelin with a throw of 145-3, while junior Michael Moxley (Snow Hill, Md./Linganore) was 17th with a mark of 105-7.

The Bobcats are back in action Saturday, April 9 when they compete in the Washington & Jefferson Invitational.
