03/01/2012

Activities for Life at Frostburg State University will offer preschool, beginner and intermediate/advanced tumbling classes in the Cordts Physical Education Center, room 170, on Wednesdays, March 14, and March 28 through April 18, beginning at 5 p.m.

The preschool tumbling class will meet from 5 to 5:30 p.m., and is for children ages 3 and 4. The class is limited to 12 students, with little to no formal tumbling training, and will include activities such as cartwheels, rolls and other simple movements and will teach flexibility, strength, muscle control and coordination. All parents are required to participate with their child during all class times.

The beginner’s class will meet from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m. and is for children between the ages of 5 and 12. The class will include basic floor tumbling exercises and some work on the low balance beam. Space is limited to 15 participants, with a minimum of seven.

The intermediate/advanced class will meet from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m., and although there is no age requirement, there are certain activities that the child must be able to perform to attend. He or she must be able to do a solid cartwheel, working toward a solid round off. Participants in this class will work on skills toward a back handspring, such as handstand holds, forward rolls, snap down, jump-back on a cheese mat, right/left side cartwheels, one-armed cartwheels, aerials with spot, backbend kick over with spot and front handspring over a barrel. This class is limited to 15 students, with a minimum of seven.
