The following is a statement from FSU President Jonathan Gibralter, given at 1:30 p.m. Monday, April 19, on the FSU campus during a press conference.
Good afternoon, everyone. My name is Jonathan Gibralter and I’m the president of Frostburg State University.
Let me begin my comments by saying that Frostburg State University is terribly saddened and shocked by this incident. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims, their family and friends and everyone involved who has been affected by this loss.
I wish to offer my deepest condolences to the family and friends of Brandon Carroll. The entire University Community is behind them and we will feel the impact of his loss for a very long time. I am relieved to hear that Ellis Hartridge will recover, and send our best wishes to his family and friends as well. I am most grateful to those police officers who were on duty and who acted so quickly to respond to the situation.
It will be extremely important for our community to pull together in the coming days. This moment gives us an opportunity to show one another the caring, concern, sensitivity, understanding and support that has always been a significant part of our university community. It’s what makes Frostburg a unique place and it distinguishes us. The relationships that exist between our faculty, staff, and students will help us through this incredibly difficult time.
I want to assure everyone that Frostburg State University is a safe campus. I also want to assure you that we will not be defined by this incident, but rather see it as a chance to draw upon our unique strengths and our deeply felt sense of community.
