At the awards ceremony and banquet held at the end of the summer program, Frostburg State University Upward Bound gave special recognition to nine outstanding students. The Distinguished Student Award is presented annually to those students who not only excel in the classroom, but also demonstrate the Upward Bound Spirit in all other areas of the program as well.
Upward Bound 2004 recognized Ed Gaba (Ft. Hill), Whitney Dawson (Allegany), Rose Crossland (Ft. Hill), Monique Kimble (Westmar), Steve Flanagan (Ft. Hill), Ryan Cassell (Ft. Hill), Robert Sensabaugh (Allegany), Rachael Sensabaugh (Allegany), and Robert Lesher (Ft. Hill).
Distinguished Students offer friendship, cooperation, respect and support for others. They also display a positive attitude, are helpful to and considerate of others, and strive towards academic excellence. All Upward Bound staff persons evaluate and vote for each candidate considered for the award.
Upward Bound is a national, federally funded pre-college program. FSU’s Upward Bound program serves 60 Allegany County students who attend area high schools. The program has both a summer and academic year component.
The U.S. Department of Education funds the program. Applications are currently being accepted and are accepted year-round. For more information contact the Upward Bound office at 301-687-4994.
