BALTIMORE, Md. —
The Frostburg State volleyball team dropped both matches to Salisbury and Johns Hopkins in the championship bracket on the second day of the third annual Division III Maryland State Volleyball Tournament Saturday afternoon at Johns Hopkins University.
The Bobcats (5-9), who have won the past two state titles, lost to Salisbury 3-0 (30-21, 30-15, 30-16). Freshman Meg McDearmon (Owings Mills, Md./Franklin) led the squad with seven kills and junior Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) led with 19 assists. Seniors Carly McDonald (Owings, Md./Northern) and Kristie Butt (Germantown, Md./Seneca Valley) had 12 and 10 digs, respectively.
The Bobcats battled Johns Hopkins the entire match dropping game one 31-29 and game two 30-21. FSU took game three 30-28 and lost a hard-fought game-four 30-28. Hernandez had a solid day dishing out 27 assists, recording 12 digs and adding four blocks. Freshman Caryn Wright (Pikesville, Md./Western Tech) led the team with nine kills followed by junior Amanda Frantz (Friendsville, Md./Northern Garrett (Garrett College)) with eight and four blocks. McDonald led FSU with 14 digs while freshman Jenny Wheaton (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) had 12.
Frostburg State returns to action Monday, September 19 when it travels to Catholic at 7:00 pm.
