- Frostburg State extended its winning streak to eight matches in a row as it defeated Pitt-Greensburg 3-0 on Tuesday evening. The victory clinched first place in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference regular season for the Bobcats and also allows it to host the conference postseason tournament beginning October 31st.
FSU (25-3,10-0), the defending AMCC champion, has won five conference titles in the six years the AMCC has been in existence. The Bobcats are currently riding a 24-match AMCC winning streak, as they have not dropped an AMCC regular season or tournament match since they lost in the finals of the 2001 tournament.
In the first game, the Bobcats showed UPG (1-9, 2-23) why they are the defending conference champions, as they took an early 8-2 lead and never looked back winning the first game 30-23. They closed out UPG with ease winning the next two games 30-14 and 30-16.
Leading the way for the Bobcats were juniors Lauren Petrick (North Caroline/Denton, Md.), who had a team high 10 kills, Jodi Carpenter (Linganore/Mt. Airy, Md.), who added nine kills, and Carrie Ness (Francis Scott Key/Taneytown, Md.), who recorded 18 assists and four digs. Freshman Amanda Hernandez (Arundel/Crofton, Md.) also added 22 assists and seven digs.
The Bobcats dominated the net recording nine solo blocks and 14 assisted blocks on the night. Petrick and freshman Kelly May (Fort Hill/Cumberland, Md.) both had four assisted blocks and two solo blocks, while Carpenter added three assisted blocks and three solo blocks.
Frostburg State will close out its regular season home schedule with a tri-match on Sunday, October 26th as it hosts Pitt-Bradford at 11:00 am and Messiah starting at 3:00 pm.
