HUNTINGDON, PA -
Frostburg State dropped its two matches on the opening day of the highly competitive Juniata College Asics Collegiate Invitational Friday.
The Bobcats fell to Juniata, ranked third nationally, 3-0, before dropping a 3-2 decision to Brockport.
In its opening match of the day, FSU looked for the upset against perennial national powerhouse Juniata. The Eagles (11-2), who entered the week ranked No. 3 in the American Volleyball Coaches Association Division III Top 25 Poll, claimed a 30-12 win in game one before fending off the Bobcats in the second and third games (30-23 and 30-21).
FSU then took on Brockport, with the Golden Eagles rallying for a hard-fought 3-2 victory.
The Bobcats won the opening game, 30-21, before Brockport pulled even with a 30-22 victory.
FSU escaped with a 30-28 win in game three, but the Golden Eagles took the fourth contest, 30-24, and finished their comeback with a 15-10 win in the deciding game.
The Bobcats, now 14-6 on the season, will have a busy Saturday, closing out the Asics Invitational against Grove City and Division II Indiana (Pa.) at 10 and 12, respectively, before returning home to take on Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference rival Pitt-Bradford in a showdown for first place at Fort Hill High School beginning at 7 pm.
