WASHINGTON, DC —
The Frostburg State women's volleyball team dropped both of its matches on the first day of the Gallaudet Tournament.
In their opener, the Bobcats fell to the host Bison, 30-25, 30-26 and 31-29. Freshman Jen Vance (Mt. Savage, Md./Fort Hill) led Frostburg State with eight kills, while fellow freshman Carrie Ness (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) added 22 assists.
Not much went right for FSU in its second match of the day, as they lost Ness, the team's top setter, to a twisted ankle and then fell to Kean, 3-1. The Bobcats took the first game, 30-28, but the Cougars won the next three, 30-26, 30-26 and 30-13.
Vance and junior Stacy Bureau (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) each recorded a team-high eight kills. Freshman Sam Seyfferth (Annapolis, Md./Broadneck) had 27 assists in place of Ness.
Frostburg State, now 8-10 on the season, will play three matches on Saturday. The Bobcats begin with Chowan at 10:00 a.m. before taking on Marymount at noon and Catholic at 4:00 p.m.
