FROSTBURG, MD —
Sophomore Lauren Petrick (North Caroline/Denton, Md.)
posted a team-high 16 kills and junior Kelli Bumgarner (Calvert/Chesapeake Beach, Md.)
added 10 more to power Frostburg State to a 3-1 win over defending Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference champion Penn State Behrend Saturday morning at Bobcat Arena.
The Bobcats, who won for the eighth straight time to improve to 13-3 overall and 3-0 in the AMCC, avenged their 3-1 loss to the Lions in last year's AMCC championship match. Penn State Behrend fell to 10-11 overall and 3-2 in conference play.
Freshman Carly McDonald (Northern/Owings, Md.) recorded a team-high 41 assists and sophomore Sam Seyfferth (Broadneck/Annapolis, Md.) notched 12 digs for the Bobcats.
Second-year head coach Jeff Billington was pleased with the win.
"Behrend started off playing well, and it took us a while to settle down and find a rhythm. Carly did a great job getting us focused in (regular setter) Carrie Ness’s absence."
Frostburg State returns to action at conference rival Pitt-Greensburg on Tuesday, October 1 at 7:00 p.m.
