- Frostburg State volleyball defeated La Roche College 30-17, 30-13, and 30-23 to finish 12-0 in the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference for the second straight season. The Bobcats were led by junior Lauren Petrick (North Caroline/Denton, Md.)
who set a new Frostburg State University career record as she had three service aces, bringing her career total to 207.
With the victory the Bobcats (28-3, 12-0) extended their winning streak to 11, as they have now won 25 of their last 26 matches. They also have now won 24 straight games and 33 out of their last 34.
Petrick, who also owns the single-season record for service aces with 88 in 2002, added nine kills and 14 digs on the evening. The Bobcats also received solid performances from junior Jodi Carpenter (Linganore/Mt. Airy, Md.), who had nine kills, three solo-blocks and four block assists, sophomore Carly McDonald (Northern/Owings, Md.), who had six kills, 15 digs and seven service aces, and freshman Amanda Hernandez (Arundel/Crofton, Md.), who had a team-high 18 assists and added 12 digs.
The Bobcats, who rank fourth in the Mid-Atlantic region of the NCAA Division III polls, will host the AMCC tournament starting this Friday, October 30th. The first match will be at 6:00 pm. as second seed Penn State Behrend will take on the third seed Penn State Altoona. Top-seeded Frostburg State will take on the fourth seed Pitt-Bradford at 8:00 pm. The finals will be played on November 1st, starting at 1:00 pm
