FROSTBURG, Md. —
The Frostburg State volleyball squad will host Pitt-Bradford Tuesday evening at 7:00 pm in the opening round of the Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference Championship Tournament.
For the second-straight season, the Bobcats earned the third seed and enter the match with a 12-18 overall record and a 7-2 league mark. FSU has also won its last three matches at home.
Pitt-Bradford earned the sixth and final playoff spot with a 9-11 overall record and a 3-6 AMCC record.
The two teams squared off this past Sunday afternoon with FSU winning 3-0.
Freshman Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) leads the Frostburg State offense with 511 kills, a 4.91 kill per game average. She is currently fourth on the all-time single-season kill list and needs 600 to tie for third.
Sophomore Caryn Wright (Pikesville, Md./Western Tech) and freshman Chelsea Wassell (Westernport, Md./Southern Garrett) also help with the attack. Wright is second on the team with 69 blocks and is third with 194 kills while Wassell is second on the team with 195 kills.
Senior Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) leads the AMCC with 1,044 assists and is third averaging 10.04 assists per game.
Jamie Keane leads the Panthers with 239 kills followed by Tarra James with 104. Amanda Groth leads the team with 556 assists, averaging 8.33 per game and ranks fifth in the conference in both categories.
The winner of the Frostburg State/Pitt-Bradford contest will advance to face No. 2 seeded Penn State Altoona.
The AMCC championship match will take place on Saturday, November 4 at 1:00 at Penn State Behrend, with the victor receiving an automatic bid the NCAA Division III Tournament.
