— Frostburg State opened defense of its Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference championship with a 3-0 (30-28, 30-27, 30-18) road win over Penn State Altoona Tuesday night. The victory improves the Bobcats' AMCC winning streak to 15 matches dating back to the 2002 season.
The Bobcats (13-2, 1-0 AMCC) were led by AMCC Pre-season Player of the Year junior Lauren Petrick (North Caroline/Denton, Md.), who recorded 14 kills and four service aces.
Also contributing big were juniors Carrie Ness (Francis Scott Key/Taneytown, Md.), who had 34 assists, and Sam Seyfferth (Broadneck/Annapolis, Md.), who added 12 digs.
Senior Kelli Bumgarner (Calvert/Chesapeake Beach, Md.) added seven kills and six service aces. As a team, the Bobcats recorded an impressive 13 service aces.
The win was also FSU's sixth in a row by a 3-0 score. The Bobcats have won 20 straight games dating back to their 3-1 defeat of Carnegie Mellon.
The Bobcats will look to continue their AMCC winning streak this weekend as they travel to Lake Erie on Friday at 5:00 p.m. and then head to Penn State Behrend on Saturday for a tri-match with Behrend and Grove City beginning at 11:00 a.m.
