Volleyball Remains Perfect in AMCC With Win Over Penn State Altoona

Frostburg, MD – Frostburg State volleyball extended its winning streak to 21 in a row with a 3-1 victory over Penn State Altoona on Thursday night. The Bobcats (21-3, 7-0) dropped the first game, but rallied to defeat the Lions (8-11, 5-2), 28-30, 30-18, 30-12, and 30-27.

The Bobcats, who came in not having dropped a game against an AMCC opponent all season, dropped the first game as they tried to rally late down 27-23, but could not pull it off falling 28-30.

However, FSU responded in games two and three taking control early and dominating as they took a 7-1 lead in the second game and a 9-2 lead in the third game. In the fourth game, the Bobcats struggled early falling behind 9-3 but rallied to tie the game at 17-17. The Lions stayed strong and eventually regained the lead late as they led 26-24. FSU turned to sophomore Kristie Butt (Seneca Valley/Germantown, Md.) to serve them back as she recorded four service aces in the game. Early in the match she rallied the red and black back from a 15-13 deficit to an 18-15 lead. Butt again rattled off four points late to give the Bobcats a 28-26 lead, which they hung on too winning 30-27 to finish of Penn State Altoona.

The Bobcats were once again led by the play of juniors Carrie Ness (Francis Scott Key/Taneytown, Md.), who had a team high 60 assists and 23 digs, and Sam Seyfferth (Broadneck/Annapolis, Md.) who added 17 digs. On the attack FSU received solid efforts from freshman Lauren Weller (Gaithersburg/Gaithersburg, Md.), who had 10 kills and 15 digs.

Freshmen Kelly May (Fort Hill/Cumberland, Md.) tied for a team high 12 kills along with junior Lauren Petrick (North Caroline/Denton, Md.), and sophomore Carly McDonald (Northern/Owings, Md.) recorded 10 kills of her own.

The Bobcats will look to continue their AMCC winning streak as they will next host Lake Erie College on Saturday, October 18th starting at 6:00 p.m. followed by a tri-match featuring Penn State Behrend on Sunday, October 19th beginning at 11:00 a.m.
