FROSTBURG, MD —
Junior Kelli Bumgarner (Calvert/Chesapeake Beach, Md.)
posted a match-high 10 kills and added five digs and two service aces to lead Frostburg State to a 3-0 sweep of Lake Erie in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference contest Friday night at Bobcat Arena.
FSU won its seventh straight match to improve to 12-3 overall and 2-0 in the AMCC, while the Storm fell to 1-8 overall and 0-3 in league play.
The Bobcats jumped out to a 13-4 lead in the opening game before cruising to a 30-13 victory. In game two, FSU scored six straight points to pull away from a 7-7 deadlock and won, 30-24.
In the final game of the match, Frostburg State again jumped ahead early, 13-2, en route to finishing the evening with a 30-12 win. Freshman Kristie Butt (Seneca Valley/Germantown, Md.) was on serve for nine Bobcat points in game three.
Sophomore Carrie Ness (Francis Scott Key/Taneytown, Md.) had a team-high 17 assists, while freshman Carly McDonald (Northern/Owings, Md.) added 14 assists.
FSU returns to action tomorrow when it hosts Penn State Behrend at 11:00 a.m. in a rematch of last year's AMCC Championship match won by the Lions, 3-1.
