RICHMOND, Ind. —
The Frostburg State volleyball team was swept on the final day of the Coca Cola Quaker Classic, Saturday afternoon.
In the opening match, FSU (0-4) was defeated by Greenville 30-19, 30-23 and 30-26.
The duo of freshmen Brooke Winterling (Glenelg, Md./Glenelg) and Samantha Quirin (Lovettsville, Va./Loudoun Valley) had a solid match. Winterling recorded 11 kills and nine digs and Quirin posted eight kills and six digs.
Senior Amanda Hernandez (Crofton, Md./Arundel) dished out 34 assists while sophomore Jenny Wheaton (Ashburn, Va./Stone Bridge) had 12 digs.
In the second match, the Bobcats lost to host Earlham, 30-28, 35-33 and 30-24.
Winterling paced the squad with a double-double, 13 kills and 14 digs. Sophomore Caryn Wright (Pikesville, Md./Western Tech) also had a fine performance with eights kills and a pair of blocks. Hernandez led the team with 25 assists and Wheaton recorded 17 digs.
The Bobcats return to action on September 6 when they travel to Carlow for a 7:00 pm match.
