ASHLAND, VA —
Perhaps the Frostburg State volleyball team is coming of age.
Coming off Monday's narrow 3-2 loss to Pitt-Bradford, which snapped their 47-match conference winning streak, the youthful Bobcats found their resolve in pulling out a pair of five-game victories at a tri-match held at Randolph-Macon College Saturday evening.
Frostburg State, which entered the day with a 1-3 record in five-game matches this season, improved to 4-4 on the year.
In their opening match of the day, the Bobcats held off Guilford College, 30-24, 28-30, 30-21, 22-30, 15-5.
Freshmen Lauren Petrick (Denton, Md./North Caroline) and Jen Vance (Mt. Savage, Md./Fort Hill) each posted a team-high 14 kills, while junior Marjorie Loggie (Gaithersburg, Md./Watkins Mill) added 10.
Junior Stacy Bureau (Rockville, Md./Richard Montgomery) posted nine kills and freshman Carrie Ness (Taneytown, Md./Francis Scott Key) turned in 40 assists.
Frostburg State then rallied past host Randolph-Macon in another marathon win, 22-30, 31-29, 22-30, 31-29, 15-10. Petrick posted a career-high 19 kills, while Vance added 10. Ness again led the team with 45 assists.
The Bobcats return to action on Thursday when they host Penn State Altoona in an Allegheny Mountain Collegiate Conference match at Bobcat Arena starting at 6:30 p.m.
